One of the Best Years of my Life
Andrei S. Markovits , Class of 2008-09

I really have very little more to say than the trite “My stay at CASBS was one of the very best years of my life”. Truth sometimes is boring and trite.

I owe two of my recent books to my productivity that year which simply would not have happened without my being truly happy and content by virtue of all of my CASBS experiences: from the weekly — sometimes even twice weekly — volleyball games, to the immensely stimulating lunch conversations; from the lasting friendships that I established with a few Fellows, to the stimulation accorded me by the larger Stanford University community that included Maples Pavilion, the Hoover Institution, Cantor Arts Center and the excellent library system. I warmly thanked CASBS and the fellows with whom I had such a fine time in the prefaces of the two books that had their origins at CASBS. So there is no need to repeat that here. Happy birthday, dear CASBS! May you continue to flourish and enrich others like you did me!

As a minor contribution, here is a YouTube video of my performing the MARXIST (AND POST-MARXIST) BOOKSTORE BLUES at our concluding party in May 2009.
